Accommodation for Asylum Seekers

On 10 November 1995, unknown perpetrators threw a homemade explosive device into the shower room of what was then a home for Bosnian war refugees on Scharnhorststraße in Jena-Nord. An explosion occurred, but no one was injured. According to police, no fire broke out. Initial investigations by the criminal police ruled out a political motive for the time being. The building had previously housed a kindergarten and, at the time of the attack, was also being used by the Jena food bank (“Jenaer Tafel”) to distribute food to people in need. A modern new building now stands in its place.
