Saale Bridge Burgau

On 25 November 1997, a surveillance team of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution observed that Böhnhardt and Mundlos carried denatured alcohol previously bought at a supermarket, as well as rubber rings, from their vehicle parked in Jena-Burgau across the Saale bridge to the garage complex “An der Kläranlage” on the other side, disappeared into a garage, and returned a short time later. On the basis of this and further findings, the Gera public prosecutor’s office finally applied to the Jena district court on 19 January 1998 for a search warrant.
