Murder of İsmail Yaşar

Murder of İsmail Yaşar

On the morning of 9 June 2005, İsmail Yaşar opened his snack stand on Scharrerstraße in Nuremberg, at the corner of Vehlburger Straße opposite the Scharrerschule, as usual. At 10:15 a.m. he was found dead in his stand. He had gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. The 50-year-old, who had lived in Germany since he was 23, left behind three children. He was the sixth murder victim in the series that many media outlets at the time disparagingly called the “Döner murders.” Only in 2017 did it become publicly known that İsmail Yaşar’s snack stand had been attacked by the neo-Nazi Jürgen F. a few months before the murder. Mr. Yaşar had reported the man to the police because he had destroyed a decorative figure belonging to the stand. The neo-Nazi was subsequently convicted. As later emerged, the man had contact with the NSU network. As in other NSU murders, indications pointing to neo-Nazis were consistently ignored in this case as well.
