Murder of Habil Kılıç
Habil Kılıç
In March 2000, the Kılıç couple opened a small fresh-produce shop selling fruit, vegetables, and Turkish specialties. On 29 August 2001, Habil Kılıç was tending the shop alone. His wife and daughter were on vacation in Turkey at the time. At 10:35 a.m. he was still on the phone with a colleague at the wholesale market hall. Ten minutes later he was found severely injured by a customer who had wanted to buy sweets for her children. She immediately called the emergency doctor. When the paramedics arrived, he was still alive. A short time later, the 38-year-old father died from the gunshot wounds to his head. For more than ten years, the family lived in uncertainty about the background of the murder. It was not until November 2011 that it became known that neo-Nazis from the terrorist group “Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund” (NSU) had murdered the father.
