Buchenwald II

On 16 May 1997, the memorial site noted explicit entries, some signed by name, from three female visitors, including: “Blood must flow, thick as a cudgel, and we shit on the freedom of this Jew republic. Sieg Heil!” The female perpetrators, from Apolda, Niedertrebra and Weimbach in Thuringia, were identified by the Jena criminal police. The text alludes to a title by the Jena neo-Nazi band “Vergeltung”, which had performed at the Winzerclub in 1995 and 1996.

On 12 August 1997, the neo-Nazi leader Thomas Dienel, chairman of the Deutsch Nationale Partei, who had already been convicted with legal finality in 1992, was also issued a permanent ban from the site. At that time, Dienel was still active as an informant for the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
