Bomb at Nordfriedhof

Uwe Böhnhardt, Uwe Mundlos, Beate Zschäpe

Bomb at Nordfriedhof

On 26 December 1997, passers-by discovered a red-painted suitcase bearing a black swastika on a white background in front of the Magnus Poser memorial site at Jena’s Nordfriedhof cemetery. The Gera public prosecutor’s office investigated Böhnhardt, Mundlos and Zschäpe, as well as Andre K., Ralf W. and Gerlach.

By order of 7 May 1998, the Gera public prosecutor’s office combined the proceedings concerning the cemetery, stadium and theatre bombs under a single lead case number. The proceedings were discontinued in 2003. Böhnhardt, Mundlos and Zschäpe were never convicted with legal finality for any of the three offences, although several circumstances pointed to them as the perpetrators.
